Overview
For over 35 years, the Outdoor Education section
of the University of Edinburgh has maintained
its position as one of the world's foremost
providers of taught and research degrees in
all aspects of outdoor education. Our teaching
is carefully articulated with practice through
our extensive skills and qualifications in
outdoor activities, and informed by our pre-eminent
position in research, consultancy and advisory
work in the field. These skills are supplemented
within the School of Education through an
extensive network of staff with relevant interests
and skills, and a number of leading outdoor
instructors and eminent visiting lecturers.
|
| Programme
aims
The central focus of our work is to encourage
positive relationships between individuals
and with the environment through learning
outdoors. We aim to develop self-awareness
and the critical-thinking skills fundamental
to academic study and professional practice.
We
are committed to a broad vision for outdoor
education. We value outdoor education which
provides physical activity and personal
and social development opportunities, and
we believe that the outdoors is the ideal
setting for environmental education to encourage
environmental literacy and sustainability.

Robinwood courses for adults are
run by qualified and experienced members of
the Robinwood training team. Robinwood staff
also participate in these courses. We are
committed to offering the same high standards
on our courses for adults that we have achieved
for many years in the provision of residential
activity courses for school groups.
|
|
| |
We
are investors in people and were also overall
winners of the investors in people national
training award for a small business. We
hold an AALA licence and are BCU approved.
|
We
offer our courses at competitive subsidised
prices, because we find that the opportunity
to run the courses is great for the development
of our own staff team. Involvement with
these courses provides great job satisfaction
for our staff team, as a supplement to our
core business running residential activity
courses for junior school groups.
